Tanzania: 58 deaths since early April due to heavy rains

Since the beginning of April 2024, Tanzania has been hit by heavy rains that have caused deadly floods and landslides. To date, the official death toll stands at 58.

The worst-affected areas are the coastal zone and the Morogoro region, some 200 kilometers west of Dar es Salaam, the country’s economic capital.

The floods caused extensive material damage, affecting more than 10,839 homes and destroying 76,698 farms.

The Tanzanian authorities have announced the construction of additional dams to reinforce the country’s flood control infrastructure.
